How checks work
CareCheck badges are shown separately so families can see exactly what has and has not been checked, rather than a single vague "fully vetted" stamp.
Identity check (NIN)
The carer supplies their National Identification Number, which is checked against the record held for it.
Identity check (BVN)
The carer supplies their Bank Verification Number, which is checked against the record held for it.
Liveness check
A short liveness step confirms the person completing verification is a real person present at the time of the check.
Documents and experience
The carer uploads qualifications and describes their experience and skills. This information is self-declared and kept on file for families to review.
Guarantor and references
The carer names a guarantor and up to two referees. CareCheck emails each one a personal link to confirm they know the carer and in what capacity. Only a confirmed guarantor's name appears on the profile; referees show as a count. Contact details are never shown.
Police certificate
If a carer uploads a police certificate, a member of the CareCheck team checks the name and dates match, records it as reviewed, and shows families whether it is current, expiring soon, or expired.
After you apply
You always know where you are
Your dashboard shows every stage of your application: profile, consent, fee, checks, review and listing. Each stage says what is done and what comes next.
Reviews take up to 10 working days
Most are completed sooner. You are notified in the app and by email the moment a decision is made, and if we need changes we tell you exactly what.
Families only see what has been checked
Until you are approved, your profile is not visible at all. Once listed, families see your name, area, skills, experience and badges. They never see your phone number, email, guarantor details or ID images.
Families reach you through enquiries
A family sends an enquiry with their own contact details. You are notified, and you decide how and when to reply.
Sandbox verification
While CareCheck is running in sandbox mode, identity checks are simulated for demonstration purposes and are not run against a live government or bureau data source. Profiles show a "Sandbox" label wherever this applies. Production use requires a live verification vendor and a liveness check before a profile can show "Identity verified" for real.
Live verification (manual document review)
Where sandbox mode is switched off, a carer instead uploads a photo of their ID document and a selfie. A member of the CareCheck team compares the two by eye. Because this step does not check the NIN or BVN against a government database, it shows on a profile as "Documents reviewed" rather than "Identity verified".
What CareCheck does not do
- It is not a DBS check or an enhanced government clearance.
- It does not guarantee a carer's character or conduct.
- It does not guarantee clinical outcomes.
- It confirms a guarantor or referee by email only; it does not interview them, and it never shows their contact details.
- It does not replace a family's own interviews, references and judgement.
